This week is easier on the students in terms of the heavy lifting. On Monday, as usual, we took our quiz on The Things They Carried. The quiz was followed by a review of the chapters covered on the assessment: from "The Dentist" to "Ambush". We finish up that review on A Day. As we review the chapter in class, I work my to each student, addressing their claim statements and offering insight for improvement. During the last half and hour, students begin watching the documentary The Fog of War, which details the reflection of former Secretary of Defense Robert Strange McNamara.
On B Day, the students listen to Sgt. John Goergen, a Veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. Sgt. Goergen is a graduate of Maple Grove and served as a medic in a number of special forces units in Falleujah, FOB Warhorse in Baqubah in Iraq, and the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan.
On Friday, students continue watching The Fog of War.
